App Released: December 13, 2009
First app from Chance MEDIA is a Music Business World First.
Sometimes great ideas become reality, quickly. The AustralAsian Music Industry Directory (AMID) iPhone app released December 2009 by Chance MEDIA is an example. Five days from concept to creation. The World’s first Music Industry Directory published for Apple iPhone & iPod Touch.
Nick Chance revealed; “Chance MEDIA was delighted to receive permission to create the AMID app. It enabled us to demonstrate our ability to deliver from concept to reality, quickly. The app’s built in search function also serves as a reminder of our broader database expertise.”
The AMID app was designed to be good value for money, simple and quick to use. These reviews for the app posted at the iTunes Store indicate enthusiastically these goals were achieved;
“...I’m really happy to see it released as an easy to use App...it’s fast, functional & easy to navigate. Yeah IMMEDIA!”. Gregg Donovan Manager for; Grinspoon, Josh Pyke, Airbourne & Jackson McLaren.
“For the money I’d say it’s pretty dan good. ... Not bad for $20.” - Ordio Productions.
The AMID app puts the who’s who of the Music Industry’s elite executives and players in Australasia, in the palm of the users’ hand. For consistency, listing details display in the print and online directory layout style, with touch activated links for email, web and phone numbers to access 1000’s of music business contacts, instantly. The app has an entire directory search and useful tag favourites list. Web and email links in listings need internet access to work, the app itself, phone numbers and search database work without. Page scrolling enables as needed on longer listings.
Approved ready for sale by Apple on 13/12/2009, the AMID app is $19.99 at the Australian iTunes store and is available globally at comparable local prices in other territories. It contains detailed contact information spanning nearly 70 categories including; Artists, Associations, Booking Agents, Managers, Merchandisers, Music Media (Print, Radio & TV), Music Publishers, Promoters, Record Companies, Studios, Venues and more. It is updated twice a year.
The concept to convert the music industry’s revered AMID to app format came from Chance MEDIA’s Managing Director Nick Chance;
“On not finding a music industry contact in my iPhone, I logged into the online AustralAsian Music Industry Directory - the idea of an AMID app immediately sprang to mind. It seemed good for existing faithful like me, and being a new publication format in itself the app also had the potential to extend the global market reach for AMID. Phil Tripp is a canny businessman and friend of over 20 years, he instantly liked the idea. In 5 days the app was created and ready for submission."
As IMMEDIA! Publisher Phil Tripp put it, "We were approached recently by an old friend from the industry, Nick Chance of Chance MEDIA, whose son skillfully programmed the app from our proprietary, copyrighted listing information. We've published the 152-page print Directory for 22 years, had an online version since 1988 on a bulletin board that evolved into our Internet model in 1994. Creating an Apple app was a natural progression to service our global client base."
Chance MEDIA is discussing a range of app ideas with select artists and music industry companies. More World First music industry related apps can be expected from Chance MEDIA during 2010.
